Urbanisation and Poverty in the Cities of the National Economic Corridor in Bolivia. Case Study: Cochabamba

The author has organized the book into seven chapters. Each is like a link that helps to account for and shed light on the complexity of the research topic from a multi-dimensional and systematic perspective aimed at imagining scenarios and applicable interventions. Chapter One sets the conceptual elements, the analytic framework and methodological aspects. Chapter Two synthesizes the historic process of urbanization worldwide and in Latin America. Chapter Three studies the issues related to the labor market, the productive structure and the incomes of the workers in the National Economic Corridor. Chapter Four explores step-by-step the various dimensions, in terms of time and space. These are the socio-economic, socio spatial, material living conditions, deprivation, and position in the life cycle and vulnerability indicators. The Fifth Chapter synthesizes the challenge of undertaking a simultaneous reading of the problems detected. Chapter Six submits the general conclusions and recommendations of this research. Finally, Chapter Seven pictures the hypothetical directions of the urban planning and the scenarios for the construction of Cochabamba as a sustainable city.
