Bridging the Gap Between Structure and Properties in Nano-Particle Filled Polymers

On May 29-30 of 2002, a workshop on polymer nanocomposites was held at NIST in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The workshop was entitled Bridging the Gap Between Structure and Properties in Nanoparticle-Filled Polymers and focused primarily on the interrelation between particle dispersion and the properties of polymers filled with clay and nanotube fillers. The purpose of the workshop was to identify research topics for NIST research and to initiate research collaboration with industrial and academic researchers in this important technological area. The workshop participants included a diverse mix of industrial, government and academic researchers. This document reproduces the slides presented by the speakers of this workshop along with a few introductory remarks about each contribution.
