摘要

In May 2002, the Center on AIDS and Other Medical Consequences of Drug Abuse (CAMCODA), of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), sponsored a working meeting on Strategies to Improve the Replicability, Sustainability, and Durability of HIV Prevention Interventions for Drug Users in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The meeting was intended as one of many steps in a long-range process to advance intervention and prevention programs to achieve sustainable and durable reductions in the transmission of HIV and other infectious diseases among drug users, their sexual partners, and other at-risk populations. This report includes articles by the multidisciplinary panel of researchers who participated in the working meeting. Each paper is based on the participant's presentation and is augmented by additional data and a synthesis of the meeting's discussions, dialogues, and debates. Although the papers are distinct, they all emphasize the importance of innovative approaches to: Assess and improve the replication of HIV interventions across diverse settings and populations; Ensure the sustainability of HIV interventions over time, across diverse communities, and with varying financial and other types of resources; and Increase the durability of HIV interventions to achieve lasting changes in risk reduction and disease prevention behaviors.
