摘要

APRNet is a new regional Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) for Advanced Practice Nurses in Primary Care (APRNs) in southern New England. This report summarizes two projects undertaken by APRNet during the award period. The purposes of this cooperative agreement proposal were (1) to conduct a network defining survey the PRINS study; and (2) to conduct a multi-method study of patients and clinicians who are members of APRNet to determine their attitudes and knowledge of privacy and confidentiality issues. PRINS involved 54 APRNs and 1620 patient encounters. The data demonstrate that APRNs tend to see patients independently, provide care for common problems, and provide counseling at most visits. The confidentiality and privacy study involved 27 APRNs and 185 patients. For the most part, patients and APRNs had similar concerns, but patients tended toward higher levels of concern than the clinicians.
