International 'Crossing Borders' Conference (4th), 'Emerging Knowledge in Culture and Health: Caring for Hispanic Populations.' Held in Arlington, Texas on October 11 and 12, 2002;Rept. for 6 Sep 02-5 Sep 03

The third International 'Crossing Borders' conference, Emerging Knowledge in Culture and Health: Caring for Hispanic Populations, was held at the University of Texas at Arlington on October 11 and 12, 2002 with the purpose of disseminating state-of-science information to health providers, administrators, and educators on each of two Healthy People 2010 health indicators: responsible sexual behavior and injury and violence as they influence the health and welfare of Hispanic populations. Eight national and international plenary speakers from a variety of disciplines presented current and emerging knowledge on the two themes. Twelve peer-reviewed podium presentations and twenty-two poster presentations addressed a variety of topics relevant to caring for Hispanic populations in health care settings. In addition, Dr. Gabriela Cesarman, health advisor for the Mexican Communities Aboard program in San Jose, California, represented the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Mexico City as a luncheon speaker, describing the issues of responsible sexuality and injury and violence from the Mexican perspective. One hundred and twelve individuals participated in the conference, representing Mexico and twelve states of the United States.
