Evaluation of a Cow-Calf Grazing System in the Piedmont: Animal Performance and Pasture Productivity.

In the North-South transition zone both cool-season and warm-season, perennial grasses can be grown and have potential to be used sequentially in a cow-calf production system. This five-year experiment evaluates tall fescue and bermudagrass, grown in separate stands but grazed in sequence, as a pasture system for the piedmont. The study evaluates two levels of nitrogen fertilization and variable stocking versus a range of fixed stocked treatments. In Years 4 and 5, the tall fescue (cool-season) component was interseeded with ladino white clover to replace nitrogen application.
