Imports and Exports of Fishery Products, Annual Summary 2003

U.S. imports of edible fishery products in 2003 were valued at $11.1 billion, $974.2 million more than in 2002. The quantity of edible imports was 2,225,598 metric tons, a 217,460 ton increase from the quantity imported in 2002. Imports of nonedible fishery products were valued at $10.2 billion, $617.2 million more than imported in 2002. Total value of edible and nonedible products was $21.3 billion in 2003, $1.6 billion more than in 2002, when $19.7 billion of fishery products were imported. U.S. exports of edible fishery products of domestic origin were 1,047,706 tons valued at $3.1 billion, compared with 1,056,303 tons at $3.0 billion exported in 2002. Exports of nonedible products were valued at $7.7 billion. Exports of fish meal amounted to 110,404 tons valued at $77.8 million. The total value of edible and nonedible exports was $10.8 billion, $72.7 million more than in 2002.
