Aquatic invasive species (AIS) have long been recognized as a serious problem inWisconsin. In recent years, the magnitude of this problem has been rapidlyexpanding. This document is intended to serve as a guide for the state in developingcoordinated responses to the problems associated with aquatic invasive species.This plan is one component of a comprehensive state effort to control invasivespecies that involves all affected state agencies and tribal governments workingtogether to prevent the further introductions of invasive species (both aquatic andterrestrial) into Wisconsin’s ecosystems. This plan focuses on prevention as the keystrategy for limiting the impacts of aquatic invasive species by controlling their initialintroduction and subsequent transfer from one water body to another. Preventionstrategies rely heavily on information, education and communication. Therefore, thisplan includes the full range of those activities needed to implement an effectiveprevention program.
