摘要

Program Announcement 0042 requests proposals for studies that identify the factors that mediate and moderate the association between exposure to violence and partner violence related outcomes. Of particular interests are studies examining mediators and moderators at multiple levels of influence including individual, social, and environmental factors and studies examining those relationships in under served populations. We are responsive to this Program Announcement in that we propose a study to examine (1) the relationship between exposure to family violence and adolescent dating violence perpetration, including sexual violence perpetration, (2) theoretically-based mediators of that relationship, and (3) theoretically-based moderators of that relationship. The mediators and moderators examined are from multiple domains of influence. Furthermore, we focus on African American adolescents, a traditionally under served population. Exposure to family violence includes witnessing violence between parents and parental violence against children. The proposed mediators derive from three theoretical perspectives: social learning theory, social control theory, and theories of parenting and, consistent with ecological models of etiology, include individual, social, and familial variables. The proposed moderators derive from theories of resiliency and also include variables from multiple domains of influence including individual, social, and neighborhood variables.
