Women and Domestic Violence: Programs and Tools That Improve Care for Victims. Research in Action. Issue Number 15

This U.S. Preventive Services Task Force indicates that very few research studies exist that can help guide clinicians on how to screen for domestic violence and manage care for identified victims. Further, health care providers need to be able to refer victims to programs and counseling that will be effective in helping them end the violence in their lives. Assessing the quality and effectiveness of these programs, however, has been difficult. The report describes training programs and tools that health care providers, social workers, and facilities and their staff can use to provide better care for victims of domestic violence.
