One of the principal goals of the National Biological Informnation Infrastructure (NBII) network is to provide seamless access to vast amounts of biological information that exist in the nation. The NBII, through a distributed network of nodes and delivery of data tools, provides users access to regional, national, and international biological data and information through a systematic and coordinated approach to handling biological information. The NBII Design Architecture documents the consolidated and integrated set of technologies and techniques that form the platform for delivering the required business functions to meet NBII's missions.
