Concentrations of Toxic Air Pollutants in the U.S. Simulated by an Air Qualtiy Model

This report describes the development of a version of Community Multi-Scale Air Quality (CMAQ), an atmospheric air quality model that can simulate the concentrations of toxic air pollutants over the large spatial and temporal scales required by human exposure models in the National Air Toxics Assessment. In this first application, we are predicting the concentrations of 20 gas phase HAPs, over the continental U.S., for the entire period of 2001. We describe the development and testing of the chemical mechanism for these species, the incorporation of chemical and physical processes for these additional species, analysis of the model results and a comparison with observed data.
