Advisory Meeting on the Special Statutory Funding Program for Type 1 Diabetes Research

An external advisory panel of scientific and lay experts with respect to type 1 diabetes research convened at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) on May 16, 2002, to discuss the special statutory funding program for research on the prevention and cure of type1diabetes. The advisors were charged with evaluating the research efforts supported by the special funds, identifying scientific gaps and opportunities for future research, and advising the NIH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the use of remaining funds for FY 2002 and FY 2003. This meeting constitutes a major source of input for a mandated report to the Congress evaluating the special funding program.
