The FY 2004 budget year was a good news/bad news time for the Archives. The good news was the allocation of the $3 million from the Capital Improvement Trust Fund to complete the new west wing. The bad news was a 17% cut in the Departments General Fund appropriation and the loss of 8 staff positions. Notable accomplishments in FY 2004 included: continued significant accessions to the collections (though not at the level appropriate to our mission or in as active and focused a way as should be)$ maintained a steady pace of processing and microfilming collections of high reference and collector value in Government Records (the pace slackened substantially with the manuscript collections because staff members were pulled off to cover reference duties)$ passed the 10,000 mark in the cataloging of books in our collection$ increased earned revenue from $168,749 in 2003 to $217,435$ continued to build our on-line databases, including additions to the Civil War service records file, completion of the Gold Star files (from World War I), and the start of the 1867 voter registration records$ supported web services that are running about 20% above last years level and are on track to exceed 25,000,000 hits$ reached the half-way point in the loose records microfilming program with the completion of 27 of the 54 eligible counties and more than 2,500 reels of microfilm$ completed the repair and restoration of the historic lighting fixtures inside the original building$ initiated an effort to secure federal funding support for the development of the new museum exhibits$ and, raised $1,522,025 in donations and pledges to the Archives & History Foundation, bringing the total raised thus far in the capital campaign to over $2.7 million.
