The Reasor Chemical Company NPL site (the site) is a former pine stump rendering facility located on approximately 25 acres of land in Castle Haynes, New Hanover County, in southeastern North Carolina. Former operations contaminated the site with volatile organic compounds, semi volatile organic compounds, metals, and dioxins. Wetlands and creeks down gradient of the site have been affected. The Reasor Chemical Company site was proposed for the National Priorities List (NPL) on September 13, 2001 and added to the NPL on September 5, 2002. The NPL is the list of hazardous waste sites throughout the United States with the highest priority for cleanup under the federal Superfund program. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) has evaluated available environmental sampling data for The Reasor Chemical Company site and determined that any exposures to on-site contaminants are likely to be intermittent and, therefore, adverse cancer and non-cancer health effects are not likely to occur.
