International Opportunities in Biomedical Research and Training

The Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been a critical component of the NIH research effort since 1968. It was established to advance health through international scientific cooperation and to serve as the locus for NIH international activities. Congressman John E. Fogarty, in whose memory the Center is named, understood that just as disease knows no boundaries, so also the benefits of medical research and indeed research itself can know no boundaries, and thus he envisioned a center at the NIH dedicated to international collaboration and the health of mankind. FIC promotes and supports scientific research and training internationally to reduce disparities in global health. FIC fosters research partnerships between U.S. scientists and foreign counterparts through international research grants, training grants, and fellowships. This brochure lists these programs, in addition to other international opportunities supported by the NIH. This information will assist scientists throughout the world to advance their research interests and careers through international cooperation.
