This U.S. industry comprises establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing institutional-type furniture (e.g., library, school, theater, and church furniture). The furniture may be made on a stock or custom basis and may be assembled or unassembled (i.e., knockdown). The data published with NAICS code 337127 include the following SIC industries: 2531 Public building and related furniture (pt) 2599 Furniture and fixtures, n.e.c. (pt) 3952 Lead pencils and art goods (pt) 3999 Manufacturing industries, n.e.c. (pt). This definition comes from the 1997 NAICS Manual. However, for this industry, the 1997 Economic Census Manufacturing did not fully implement the conversion to NAICS. Data for NAICS industry 337127 do not include establishments primarily engaged in manufacturing wood or nonwood lunchroom tables and chairs.
