摘要

The Industrial Hygiene masters degree program at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, Department of Occupational and Environmental Health, has been in existence for nearly 40 years and has been accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) since 1994. The department's innovative 'dual track' in Industrial Hygiene and Environmental Management (EM/IH), which was begun in 1994, received separate ABET accreditation in 2000. The rigorous program is oriented to the training of highly-qualified industrial hygiene practitioners, and includes a masters thesis that teaches the scientific method and prepares practitioners to be critical users of scientific information. The NIOSH Training Program Grant (TPG), awarded in 1999 for five years, has been crucial to the program continued advancement and success. Sixteen trainees have been supported on the grant$ five of these trainees have graduated from the program, nine have completed didactic coursework and are in various stages of thesis research, and two are continuing in their second year of study. The availability of NIOSH training support, together with funded research assistantships, has enabled the department to attract highly qualified students and maintain robust enrollments even while increasing the rigor of the program s entrance requirements and curriculum.
