摘要

The sequencing of the human genome has facilitated a significant increase in our understanding of disease. By using individual genetic information to prevent, diagnose, and treat disease with better precision, genomics-enabled medicine promises health care that is personalized, predictive, proactive, and preventive rather than reactive, said Sam Shekar, chief medical officer at Northrop Grumman Health IT and co-chair of the workshop. On December 8, 2014, the Roundtable on Translating Genomic-Based Research for Health of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) hosted a workshop on Genomics-Enabled Learning Health Care Systems: Gathering and Using Genomic Information to Improve Patient Care and Research in Washington, DC.
