摘要

Anthropogenic activities within the Silver Springs springshed over recent decades may have contributed to elevated nutrient concentrations in stormwater runoff and groundwater, leading to the eutrophication of Silver Springs. To remove the nutrients from stormwater, Bio-sorption Activated Media (BAM) can be used. This is a report on Phase I research that includes examination of Highway runoff locations to determine which ones are appropriate for BAM-based filters before runoff waters enter karst regions. These highway locations typically are constructed in areas that have soils that do not remove dissolved nutrients. Fifteen stormwater basins within the Silver Springs springshed in Florida were screened based on cost and practical application criteria, with the end goal of selecting two test and two alternative stormwater basins for testing BAM-based Best Management Practices at the field scale in Phase II of this research.
