This report gives an overall view of various aspects of the determination of inorganic elements in environmental matrices as air, water and soil, biological matrices like tissues, fluids and some food. The whole procedure is examined from the sampling to the statistical treatment of the data. The most recent analytical application of the atomic absorption spectroscopy, atomic emission plasma spectrometry and mass spectrometry are described. Particular attention is also devoted to the quality control and to the use of reference materials to obtain adequate analytical accuracy. Finally, a wide dissertation upon the evaluation of statistical methods for treatment of analytical data as well as for planning of the experimental design has been included.
