Impact of the 2005 Hurricanes on the Natural Gas Industry in the Gulf of Mexico Region. Paths of Hurricane Katrina and Rita

This report summarizes the findings of the Department of Energy's (DOE) monitoring of the impact of hurricanes Katrina and Rita on the natural gas industry in the Gulf of Mexico region from late August 2005 through early March 2006. During that time, DOE coordinated with other Federal agencies and various natural gas industry personnel to track storm recovery efforts on a daily basis and identify disrupted natural gas flows and possible bypasses. These monitoring efforts provided further insights into the complex supply delivery operation associated with offshore natural gas production. They also highlighted the importance of accurate, timely data and identified specific data elements that would be pertinent during other supply-related emergencies.
