Microbial Laboratory Guidance Manual for the Final Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule

The Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule (LT2ESWTR or LT2 Rule; Reference 5.1) requires public water systems (PWSs) that use surface water or groundwater under the direct influence of surface water to monitor their source water (influent water prior to treatment plant) for Cryptosporidium, E. coli, and turbidity for a limited period (40 CFR SC 141.701(a) and (c-h)). In support of the monitoring requirements specified by the rule, three documents have been developed to provide guidance to the affected PWSs and the laboratories that support them. This guidance document is provided to help implement the LT2 Rule. This guidance document does not, however, substitute for the LT2 Rule or the analytical methods approved for use under the rule. The material presented is intended solely for guidance and does not alter any regulatory or analytical method requirements not altered by the LT2 Rule itself.
