Earlier histories addressed our roots as an integral part of the region's efforts to live in harmony with the destructive power of the great Mississippi River, while preserving its powerful economic potential. Thus, while flood control and navigation remain among our most important missions, this book skillfully demonstrates how far we've come as environmental stewards and emergency managers, and even chronicles how we previde support to our overseas military forces. These new missions are now integral to what we do.
