摘要

The USDA Federal nutrition assistance programs provided about $10 billion annually in support of fruit and vegetable consumption in Fiscal Year 2005. These funds support the purchase and distribution of fruits and vegetables by USDA to schools, food banks, and other program providers; purchase and use by programs providers through the Child Nutrition Programs, and participants purchases in the marketplace through Food Stamps, WIC, and the farmers market nutrition programs. Additionally, messages and materials that encourage consumption of fruits and vegetables are a part of USDA's $600 million nutrition education and promotion effort. The following nutrition assistance programs provide access to those fruits and vegetables in various ways.
