As the primary structural and functional components of the cell, proteins play vital roles in all cellular processes, including those associated with cancer. Consequently, understanding proteins and their interactions is critical to NCI's mission to reduce the burden of cancer. As a result, proteomic technolgies can be used to solve mission-critical problems in cancer research, including detecting cancer processes, finding targets for novel therapeutics, and determining biological markers of treatment response.
