Imports and Exports of Fishery Products, Annual Summary 2009

U.S. imports of edible fishery products in 2009 were valued at $13.1 billion, $1 billion less than in 2008. The quantity of edible imports was 2,341,242 metric tons, a decrease of 29,234 tons (1.2 percent) from the quantity imported in 2008. Imports of nonedible fishery products were valued at $8.7 billion, $5.6 billion less than in 2008. Total value of edible and nonedible fishery imports was $21.8 billion in 2009, $6.6 billion less than in 2008. U.S. exports of edible fishery products of domestic origin in 2009 were 1,119,732 tons valued at $3.74 billion, compared with 1,161,843 tons at $3.99 billion exported in 2008. Exports of nonedible products were valued at $13.3 billion. Exports of fish meal amounted to 72,919 tons valued at $71.5 million. The total value of edible and nonedible exports was $17.1 billion, $3.7 billion less than in 2008.
