Nimbus Fish Hatchery was built below Nimbus Dam to mitigate for lost spawning habitat by construction of Folsom and Nimbus Dams. The barrier weir, required to guide fish into the hatchery ladder, has experienced major, costly damage over the years. The goal of the project is to replace the existing in-river weir with a flume and ladder that will meet hatchery goals for fish, open up more river habitat, reduce operation and maintenance costs, and enhance the overall environment. This report documents the many previous designs, including in-river designs, and the decisions made that accompany the final design of the flume, ladder, and rock weir entrance channel for the Nimbus Fish Hatchery. Results of hydraulic studies that were conducted to support the fisheries needs are given.
