IGCC: Opportunties for Alternative Energy Technologies in Maryland

Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is a state-of-the-technology for generating power and producing fuels and other chemical products using coal of other solid fuels such as petroleum coke and biomass. Given that IGCC may play a role in meeting our future power generation needs and because IGCC can generate electricity at improved levels of environmental performance, the Department of Natural Resources Power Plant Research Program (PPRP) completed a technology review and feasibility analysis to: evaluate the technological feasibility and commercial applicability of IGCC in Maryland; Outline the siting and licensing implications associated with coal-based IGCC technology relative to conventional coal-fired and natural gas-fired combined cycle power plants.
