Every year in Italy occur about 3 million home injuries. Among the injured, around 1.7 million they ask for assistance of Emergency Departments (ED) and around 130.000 they are hospitalized. Therefore, the prevention of these events represent a priority of public health . With that concern is of upmost importance the availability of a suitable injury surveillance system . With this aim Law 493/99 determined the set up of a national surveillance system on home injuries (SINIACA) within the Italian National Institute of Health (ISS). In the present study the data on home injuries are published with reference to three Italian regions for the year 2005: Veneto, Abruzzo and Sardinia. The principal aim of the study is to briefly describe the observations made in the ED and inpatient services of, the injury severity and incidence, as well as, the external causes of the accident such as mechanism of injury, place of occurrence and activity of the injured person. ED data have been linked to Hospital Discharge Register (HDR) ones in order to obtain integrated hospital data on injuries.
