This was another busy and exciting year for CVM, but during the year we found time to revisit and refresh our Vision and Mission Statements. The outcomes are short, but they are also meaningful to all of us. Over the years, our previous statements had served the Center well, but after much consideration and input from across the Center we settled on new ones. These new statements more accurately reflect our Vision of where we want to go - Excellence. Innovation. Leadershipand our Mission, or why we exist - Protecting human and animal health. Our vision and our mission and commitment to our stakeholders drive and shape our daily activities. As you will see in the pages of this Annual Report, there are a tremendous number of innovative activities going on at the Center. We are one of FDAs smallest Centers, but our responsibilities encompass most FDA product areas. In particular, our food safety responsibilities have taken on new significance because food safety has become one of the Agencys top priorities. As a member of FDAs Office of Foods, CVM is devoting time and resources toward building an infrastructure that helps FDA develop a risk-based approach to preventing foodborne outbreaks and respond much more rapidly in the event something does happen.
