The Forest Service has prepared this proposal in compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other relevant federal and state laws and regulations. Scoping is an integral part of environmental analysis that is intended to refine the proposed action, identify preliminary issues, explore possible alternatives and probable environmental effects, and identify interested parties and affected persons. This scoping document summarizes the preliminary project proposal for the Van Buren Project area, and provides the basis for obtaining public comments on this project. Comments received during this scoping period may be used in further refining the project proposal and the environmental analysis.
