摘要

Chignik Bay, a small, remote fishing village about 450 miles southwest of Anchorage and 250 miles southwest of Kodiak Island, gets its name meaning 'big wind' in the Aleut language from its location on the windy coast of Anchorage Bay, Alaska. The village sits at the mouth of Indian Creek, a major salmon stream that flows from the Aleutian Range into Anchorage Bay. In the setting of this charming village, one can see clear waterfalls coming off the mountains, wildflowers, berries, and different species of trees. Mt. Veniaminof, an occasionally active volcano, rising 8,225 feet, is the dominant land feature in this area of the Alaska Peninsula. The three communities of Chignik--Lake, Lagoon, and Bay--are similar and different in many ways. Chignik Bay is incorporated as a second class city, while Chignik Lake and Chignik Lagoon remain unincorporated villages.
