Nanotechnology is the science and engineering of examining, monitoring, and modifying the behavior and performance of materials at nanoscale. It has gained recognition in the field of medicine and in other industries and is slowly making its way into the cement and concrete industry. No other technology has motivated engineers, scientists, innovators, and those conscious of sustainable development to collaborate as much as has nanotechnology. Establishment of new research centers, consortiums, committees, and task forces dealing with nanotechnology is on the rise globally and reflects the interest of indiduals, organizations, and governments. Nanotechnology, from the standpoint of its application in cement and concrete, appears to be the technology of the 21st century.
