Quaking aspen (Populus tremuloides) is a keystone tree species in North America, where it exerts a significant influence on the structure and function of subalpine and boreal forest systems. Aspen is the most widely distributed tree species in North America, extending across diverse topographical, edaphic, temperature and moisture gradients.
