This is the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Inspector General (OIG) Fall 2011 Semiannual Report to Congress, which provides a summary of the OIG's activities from April 1, 2011 to September 30, 2011. During this reporting period, the OIG issued 9 reports containing 34 recommendations for improving SBA operations and reducing fraud and unnecessary losses in the Agency's programs. In addition, OIG investigations resulted in 44 indictments and 30 convictions. Overall, the OIG achieved monetary recoveries and savings of nearly $43 million from recommendations that funds be put to better use agreed to by management, disallowed costs agreed to by management, court ordered and other investigative recoveries and fines, and loans or contracts not made as a result of investigations and name checks.
