Section 6002 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU) requires that a project’s lead agencies establish a plan for coordinating public and agency participation during the environmental review process. Section 6002 applies to all projects for which an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is prepared. The purposes of the SAFETEA-LU Section 6002 Coordination Plan (Coordination Plan) are to facilitate and document the lead agencies’ structured interaction with the public and other agencies, as well as inform the public and other agencies of how that interaction will be accomplished.
