Southwestern Willow Flycatcher Study Results: Selected Sites Along the Rio Grande from Bandelier National Monument to Elephant Butte Reservoir, New Mexico, 2011.

During the summer of 2011, the Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation) conducted surveys and nest monitoring of the federally endangered Southwestern Willow Flycatcher (Empidonax traillii extimus; SWFL) in seven distinct reaches along approximately 300 kilometers of the Rio Grande in New Mexico between the Isleta Pueblo and Elephant Butte Reservoir. Surveys were performed to contribute to current baseline population data, monitor population trends, and determine the current distribution of SWFLs along the Middle Rio Grande and also to meet Reclamations Endangered Species Act (ESA) compliance commitments.
