The Causes for Porosity and Leakage in Non-Ferrous Castings

The causes for porosity and leakage in non-ferrous castings are discussed. Gas porosity and intercrystalline shrinkage porosity are studied in detail, including the effect of various gases, the influence of alloying elements, and the influence of pouring temperatures on porosity.nThe influence of pouring temperature on a modified composition "G" alloy is also studied.nAn attempt is made to establish a relationship between per cent soundness and leaky castings.nRecommendations and conclusions are presented.nA program for future research is included.
