The objects of the tests herein reported were:n(a) To determine the general performance when the YE equipment is used in conjunction with the Z3-RU receiver.n(b) To make studies of the apparent beam width of thenYE antenna array when received by the ZB-RU equipment,n(c) To determine the nature of adjustments and precautions necessary to obtain satisfactory performance from the equipment.n(d) To make suggestions regarding features to be incor¬porated in the final instruction books for the equip¬ment,n(e) To obtain data to serve as a basis for making recom¬mendations as to improvements found necessary or desirable in the event that additional homing equip¬ments are procured at some later time.nThree general methods were used in determining the directive characteristic of the antenna array of the Fodel YE Equipment, The first method employed a specially constructed diode detector which was used in a manner to minimize errors in field patterns due to extraneous signals being impressed upon the detector by reflections from other objects in the vicinity of the YE antenna array. Similar studies were made using the 2D-RU Receiving Equipment as a detector for obtaining the array pattern. Additionally, oscillograms were taken of the directive characteristic with the YE equipment under conditions as ordinarily used in the Naval service. Other tests and measurements were made to determine the characteristics and limitations of the devices used in determining the pattern of the an¬tenna array
