The effect of inclusions upon the ballistic performance of eleven "failed" and ten "passed" inch armor plate was studied. The number of inclusions per square inch, per se, was not an index of the ballistic performance. An excellent correlation was>found between the number of notch-forming inclusions and failure in the ballistic H performance. The "failed" plates always contained:' a larger number of notch-forming than the "passed" plates regardless of the total number of inclusions.
