Excellent magnetic shielding protection, for field strengths less than 500 oersteds, can be obtained with a simple heat treatment on shields made from Mumetal. or Molybdenum Permalloy, The heat treatment consist merely of heating the shield, at 1850-1750 for 2-3 hours and cooling slowly,nCold deformation has been found to impair seriously the magnetic protection of a shield. It is, therefore, desirable to support the shield to prevent distortion during heat treatment so that reforming is unnecessary.
