A STUDY OF ODORANTS FOR USE IN FIRE EXTINGUISHERS OF THE CARBON DIOXIDE AND METHYL BROMIDE TYPE

In order to render the atmosphere surrounding the discharge or accidental leakage of a carbon dioxide of methyl bromide fire extinguisher instantly detectable by means of an odor response, odorants have been selected showing optimum characteristics for the requirements of each extinguishing agent.n It is shown by physiological and chemical tests that the concentration of carbon dioxide following discharge of a container may be semi-quantitatively estimated by the use of 0.15 ml. iso-amyl isovalerate per pound of carbon dioxide introduced at the time of pressurizing the container.
