QMC-17-A REPORT ON SOME FACTORS AND SPECIAL TREATMENT STUDIED IN CONNECTION WITH IMPROVING THE RESISTANCE TO WATER FENETRATION OF FLESH FINISHED LEATHER

摘要

A large number of patents on special formulations containing oils, greases and waxes, in various combination for treating leather to increase its “waterproofness” are found in leather literature. If “waterproffness” means a complete imperviousness to water in addition to a reduction in the water absorption by the leather under static circumstances then such treatments are satisfactory. However, in shoe upper leather, where a dynamic condition (flexing action) of service is oinvolved, imperviousness to water penetration becomes difficult to attain by the impregnation with oils, greases and waxes, as this report will show.
