摘要

A theoretical investigation has been made into the practicality of locating the position of a power plant or power line by using a loop type direction finder operating on the flux produced by either or both. This investigation has indicated that the external flux from an a-c generator is too weak to give appreciable distances but that an open wire power line might be located at relatively short distances under certain conditions. The scheme is not considered feasible inasmuch as both theoretical investigations by the Laboratory and practical tests by the Army at Camp Evans, have indicated that an elevated two-wire line 300 feet long with conductors horizontally spaced six feet apart carrying 25 amperes at 60 cycles could only be located at a maximum distance of 750 yards.
