The development of Vicuna Belting started with Dr. V. Bohn's work during World War I to replace noble-thermocouple materials (platinum etc.) with chromiun-cobalt alloy. In view of the relatively high coat of melting in this manner, vacuum melting will be limited in it application to use which require special consideration regarding:n(a) Extremely close chemical composition limit (material for radio tube contraction and thermo-couple element etc.):n(b) Absolute minima of gas content for reason of hot and cold workability and ultimate physical properties:n(c) Prevention of oxidation, i.e., loss of expensive alloying element, which are readily oxidized, andn(d) Minima of carbon content.
