Characteristics of Experimental Model Cxkb Frequency Shift Receiver Converter Equipment

The Model CXKB frequency-shift converter, when used with a standard Navy receiver, provides a system suitable for radio teletype communication. The companion receiver heterodynes the incoming frequency-shift signal to provide two alternate audio-beat frequencies which become the "mark" and "space" input signals to the converter. These signals are then modified by the converter to produce the usual type of d-c output pulses employed in keying a teleprinter.nThe major electrical and system-operation characteristics were investigated at the Laboratory to determine the performance and limitations of the equipment, particularly with regard to Naval Communications service. Consideration was also given to necessary improvements in future frequency-shift equipments of this general type.
