摘要

The tentative designs of the various components of the Direction Finder Unit of the AN/SPR-4 Submarine Equipment are described. On the basis of preliminary measurements, it is considered possible to design a dielectric antenna for horizontally and vertically polar¬ized signals to cover a frequency range of 2000 to 4000 Mc and to scale this antenna to 1/3 size to cover a large portion of the 6000 to 12000 Mc range. The ultimate frequency coverage of the collector unit will depend upon the useful frequency range of the radome, coaxial switch and mercury type rotary joint being developed for the collector. The bearing indicator, which employs a synchro control - transformer yoked around the neck of the cathode-ray tube to provide a magnetically deflected scan, has been found to be generally suitable for use in a combined pulse analyzer -panoramic adaptor - direction finder indicator, being developed by the Airborne Instruments Laboratory, Mineola, N. Y., for the AN/SPR-4 equip-ment. The developmental model of the direction finder unit is ex¬pected to be completed prior to 30 September 1947.
