This may be the case, for instance, on a lathe when it is required to cut off a number of pieces to length, ready for cen¬tering. Also, the ordinary process of nicking and breaking may be replaced by hack sawing. In some cases, where it is required to cut a number of pieces which are flat or square, even more saving may be accomplished;and again, there may be Jobs where a piece needs a gap cut out, as in the case of a crankshaft. Here the sewing machine will not only save time and trouble but it Will do better work than may be done by any other means with the existing equipment in the shop.
