The purpose of this investigation has been the development of a light-weight structural clay product that could be made at a low cost, and if possible although not necessarily, made on the equipment now in use in the manufacture of structural clay products.nThe use of combustible materials for producing the pore spaces was selected because of its adaptability to present forming methods and its ease in controlling pore size and distribution. Further it was hoped to utilize the heat of combustion in such a way as to reduce firing costs.
